Uncategorized Tale PART 3 : The Ending

UNCATEGORIZED TALE: The Ending

Chapter 5

After having dinner.

“Would you like to go to the bar to have some drink Aen, coffee, or something?” Tom asks

“No, I’m pretty full. The food is great. I hope you don’t mind I really would like to have some rest...”

“Is something wrong? You don’t seem to be enjoying yourself with the place.”

“No, I’m fine. It’s just that… I just need to lie down that’s all”

“Oh... Ok... You tell me if there’s anything you need, k?”

“Thanks…”

Tom and Aeneah took the elevator upstairs to their room, as Khali was just about to take the same elevator as theirs when the elevator door closed before he could even enter. He pushed the up button and took the next elevator. As if fate was unfolding its own game, Aeneah and Khali both had their rooms at the same floor. When Tom and Aeneah entered their room, a second later Khali went out from the elevator and went inside his own room.

Aeneah took a warm bath, she heard Tom say that he would be at the bar if she needs anything.

She was about to sleep when she remembered the bottle she had found. She opened the bottle and slips the paper out; she carefully unrolled the paper and was startled to see her name on it. As she read the letter, her heart pumped profusely with its every word. “Of all places.. Why do I have to find the one thing I’m trying to escape from? Why now and why here? Why do you memories of you continue to haunt me Khali?” confused of what the letter was all about, she rolled it and placed it inside the bottle, she went outside their room and went to the shore to breathe some fresh air.

She was standing at the shore, staring at the endless horizon, the bottle in her hand. As the evening breeze brushed her soft face, a man was slowly approaching to where she was standing

“Aeneah?”

Aeneah did not turn her gaze to the voice of the one calling her name.

Not far from where she was standing, Khali was dazed at the very sight of her. It was an unanticipated incident that they would be crossing paths again, here at the same resort they spent their first night out together a long time ago. He saw that she was holding something, a bottle that contained something, “is that what I think it is?” he thought. He took a few steps towards her, now they were only a few feet apart.

“Where did you get that?” Khali asks

“I found it.. Here.. in the shore..” this time she turned her gaze to him

“Aeneah… I… Why… I mean… Are you here alone?” he stutters

“I’m with someone… I just read you letter..” she saw the stunned look in his face

“Oh.. I.. Aeneah.. You know.. I mean I know..” he hesitated; words and thoughts flooded his mind

“Do you want to talk?” she asks

“Yes…” more than you know Aen..

The two of them sat down by the shore and talked; she answered every question he was yearning to hear, and he said the words he had long kept inside. Aeaneah told him how she and Tom met and Khali told her how he ended up marrying Tish. After a long conversation, there was silence, both of them facing the endless horizon of the sea. Khali spoke first

“What do you think went wrong Aen?”

“I don’t know, I guess some things are just not meant to be. I suppose we’re one of those people who were just made to cross paths. I had my mistakes, and you had yours. We both had regrets to some of the things that we did and did not do, to the choices we have made that brought us to where we are right now. ”, as she spoke these words, her eyes were fixed upon the sea’s unending drift.

“If time took a glimpse of the past, If I could have said and done the things that I failed to do before…would you… have chosen me instead of him?” he painfully asks her

She turned to him, looked him in the eye, and said “No…” he was stunned hearing her answer. But before he could utter another word, Aeneah said

“I did not chose you Khali, my heart did. For the first time, it learned how to work on its own, decide on its own, beat on its own freedom and chose to fall for you. Though I never understood the reason why it did, it just happened.”

Khali carefully grasps her hand; the gaps between their fingers interlocking with one another in a perfect fit.

“If I ask you to be with me Aen, will you?”

“You know it will just make things more complicated. We both have someone in our lives now, the ones whom we have responsibilities to. I don’t want to hurt Tom… He has given me so much; he helped me amend my life again. He was there for me when the world turned its back on me, when… I was too late to find you.”

“I understand...” Khali accepted the bitter truth of Aeneah’s words

“Khali… Could you do me a favor? Just one last favor…”

“Yes?” he looked at her

She saw the sea’s tranquil drift to the shore as she spoke these words

“My hand… Never let it go… just for now…”

Khali softly made his grip tighter and moved a little closer to her. Aeneah laid her head gently on Khali’s shoulders.

“I was never a believer of serendipity, but now that you’re here it just proves to me that we do not have control over fate’s existence. No matter how hard I try to run away from you, fate still finds a way to make our paths cross. If forever ends now, ends here… I would still gladly take it… with you Khali.” Aeneah said in her thoughts as she closed her eyes; the wind subtly brushed through her soft skin; with Khali’s gentle grip on her hand, she wished that letting him go would not hurt this much.

As both of them lay sitting upon the shore, Khali pictured the beautiful sunset he witnessed a couple of hours ago when he arrived here.

“You were my Princess, Aeneah and you will remain to be. I never believed that fairytales exists, but your coming into my life is proof enough that anyone can have his own fairytale. I guess this is where my fairytale ends. I suppose this is how Love works, even the most Beautiful Days… eventually have their Sunsets.” As Khali’s thoughts drifted into the evening air, a falling star shot from the sky. As he caught sight of it, he felt a pang in his heart; his star has finally fallen, he finally had his wish.

Who said forever means a lifetime? Most of the time it is that special moment in our lives, that moment when we wish that we could have the ability to take hold of the hands of time, to savor that one special moment – a moment we call forever.

One decision, one mistake, one choice - that made all the difference.
